Guy Fawkes Day (UK): celebration in honour of Guy Fawkes, a member of the “Gunpowder Plot,” who was arrested whilst guarding explosives that had been planted under the House of Lords waiting for King James I to enter. King James fell ill and never went to the meeting. Supporters of the King lit bonfires celebrating the failure.
